21th Vis Swimming Marathon 2019
Croatia, Vis Island, August 17th 2019
This summer the town of Vis organizes its traditional Vis Swim Marathon. With the effort of LGBTIQ+ sport clubs qSPORT Zagreb and Queer Sport Split there are more and more LGBTIQ+ participants taking part on this sporting event in the last couple of years. Since 2013 the LGBTIQ+ participants make almost 20% of all participants at this event (there are usually around 100 participants altogether). Vis Swim Marathon (i.e. open water race) is taking place on a 2200 meters (1,37 miles) long trail from the small island Host to the Vis town center. The schedule on Saturday, August 17 will approximately be as follows:
5 pm Short medical examination of competitors 6 pm Embarkation of competitors on the boat and transport to the islet of Host 6.30 pm Start (islet of Host) 7.00 - 8.00 pm Arrival of competitors at the finish (the center of the town of Vis) 8:30 pm Award giving ceremony and banquet for all participants Registration - by email to tourist office Vis in July or August (at least a week before the marathon). 1-2 days before the race the fee (less than 10 euros) is paid in the tourist office of Vis. The fee usually covers the banquet and a T-shirt. Detailed information about the Vis swimming marathon usually show up at the Vis Tourist Board Web site a month before the race. Additional Program / Holidays
For us this is not only a race, but we also spend summer holidays together there (for instance from Wednesday to Monday, and the race is on Saturday). In addition to the regular program of the Vis Swimming Marathon (organized by the town of Vis), qSPORT and QSS usually organize some additional sport or entertaining program in the week of the marathon.

The Island and the Vis Town
Did you know that the story of the Mamma Mia 2 movie is supposed to be set on a Greek island, but it was actually filmed at the Island of Vis?
The town of Vis, where the marathon takes place, is situated in the northeastern part of the island, hidden in a well protected bay. More and more tourists visit this island every year, but Vis still gives its visitors the same old Mediterranean charm and offers stress free living. Tourist informationAccommodation There are only two hotels in the town of Vis, so we usually book private accommodation in the town of Vis. The best would be if you don´t hesitate and visit: Arrival By plane (or bus) to the city of Split and then by ferry or catamaran to Vis The closest airport: Split, Croatia Bus: Flixbus, Eurolines and AKZ (bus station Zagreb site) Ferry/catamaran connections: Jadrolinija Join us in August for the Vis marathon and summer holidays at the beautiful Island of Vis! :) For information about the applications or other information:
