19th Vis-Swim-Marathon 2017
Croatia, Vis Island, August 19th 2017
This summer the town of Vis organizes its traditional Vis Swim Marathon.
With the effort of LGBTIQ sport clubs QueerSport Split and qSPORT Zagreb there are more and more LGBTIQ participants taking part on this sporting event in the last couple of years. Since 2013 the LGBTIQ participants make almost a quarter of all participants at this event.
Vis Swim Marathon is taking place on a 2200 meters (1,37 miles) long trail from the small island Host to the Vis town center.
The schedule on August 19 will approximately be as follows:
5 pm Short medical examination of competitors
6 pm Embarkation of competitors on the boat and transport to the islet of Host
6.30 pm Start (islet of Host)
7.00 - 7.45 pm Arrival of competitors at the finish (the center of the town of Vis)
8 pm Award giving ceremony and banquet for all participants
Registration - by email to tourist office Vis in July or in August (at least a week before the marathon).
2-3 days before the race the fee (less than 10 euros) is paid in the tourist office of Vis. The fee usually covers the banquet and a T-shirt.
Detailed information about the Vis swimming marathon usually show up at the Vis Tourist Board Web site a month before the race.
In addition to the regular program of the Vis Swim-Marathon, organized by the town of Vis, QSS and qSPORT will try to organize a queer program for the, in the meanwhile, more and more growing number of LGBTIQ audience.
For instance, in 2013 and 2014 the plesnjaQ party (Facebook and web page), that usually takes place in Split, moved to Vis in the evening after the marathon.
Besides the Party program the QSS and qSPORT usually surprise with additional sport or entertaining program in the week of the marathon.
The Island and the Vis Town
The town of Vis is situated in the northeastern part of the island with a same name, hidden in a well protected bay.
Now days there are only around 2000 residents in the town of Vis, and on the whole island only around 3500.
More and more tourists visit this island every year. Changes in the local lifestyle are noticeable on a daly basis, but in the same time Vis still gives its visitors the same old, irresistible Mediterranean charm and offers stress and bustle free living.
The town of Vis has only one hotel, therefore private accommodation in the town of Vis is even better option :) The best would be if you don´t hesitate and visit:
By plane (or bus) to the city of Split and then by ferry or catamaran to Vis
The closest airport: Split, Croatia
European Coastal Airlines: ECA
Bus: Eurolines i AKZ
